Habitat
for Humanity/84 Lumber Classic By Amy (Mrs. Brett) Quigley
Hammers, hard hats and toolbelts: not what most would
expect a group of PTWA members to be wearing during a tournament
week. But Tuesday, September 13 during the week of the 84
Lumber Classic, there were buses full of tool-toting women
heading out to a Fayette County Habitat for Humanity homesite
in nearby Uniontown, ready to lend a hand to the Louis Gregor
family to build a new place to call their own.
Within
just a few hours, the walls were up, the roof was on, and
a house stood where earlier there had been just a concrete
slab. Accompanied by PGA TOUR player Jerry Kelly, who sits
on the board of his local Habitat for Humanity chapter in
Wisconsin, the group of volunteers, both from the PTWA and
from the Nemacolin Ladies League, had helped bring a dream
to reality.
Our hammers,
hard hat and toolbelts had been generously donated to us by
84 Lumber. When we were done, all of the equipment was collected
and the PTWA made arrangements to send the it to the hurricane
stricken Gulf Coast Region where this type of equipment was
much needed to help in the rebuilding process.
Many thanks
to Habitat for Humanity and to the 84 Lumber Classic for organizing
this wonderful day of work. All the volunteers had a great
time, and we hope to take part in another Habitat for Humanity
project during the 2006 84 Lumber Classic.
