Greater Boston Food Bank/Deutsche Bank Championship

On Wednesday, August 31, PGA TOUR Wives Association members and PGA TOUR player Brett Quigley travelled to downtown Boston to join forces with volunteers from State Street Global and Deutsche Bank to sort food at the Greater Boston Food Bank. When we arrived, the volunteers were divided into two groups for a competition to see who could sort the most food in two hours. The Blue and Red teams were fiercly competitive and when the whistle blew, the food flew. Two hours later, 12,000 lbs of food had been sorted and the Red team was victorious.

The Greater Boston Food Bank distributes more than 24 million pounds of food annually. The food, which is donated by wholesalers, retailers and through government food contracts, is then sent to hunger-relief agencies that distribute it to those in need. Some of the food procured by the Greater Boston Food Bank will be diverted to assist those in the Gulf States affected by Hurricane Katrina.

This was the second year PTWA members worked at the Food Bank and we look forward to returning next year to sort even more food!
