Walter Reed Army Medical Center

On Wednesday, July 1 the PGA TOUR Wives Association joined PGA TOUR’s Birdies for the Brave to host the 2nd Annual Family BBQ at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  The event was scheduled to kick off at 6:30pm; however, the residents of the Mologne House were excited to get the festivities started and showed up early to help us set up. With two long BBQ buffet tables, a live band rocking in the background, kids getting their faces painted, and TOUR players signing golf balls and hats; well, it was just a wonderful sight to behold!  Wheelchairs, crutches and prosthesis didn’t stop these wounded warriors from hitting some practice golf shots or participating in our PaintFest project. This night was a unique opportunity for our PGA TOUR families to hear stories from the wounded warriors, about where they came from and how they ended up at Walter Reed. It was difficult to determine who was more interested in who’s stories; the players about the warriors’ lives or the warriors about life on TOUR!  It was also very special to see the TOUR children playing along side with the wounded warrior children.  It was a special evening for everyone; lots of laughs, great food, great music and fun activities as we celebrated those who made the ultimate sacrifices for all of us and enjoyed, if only for a few hours, what a BBQ at Walter Reed is all about!
