St. Michael Special School
Zurich Classic of New Orleans
By: Julie Petrovic

On Wednesday of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the PGA TOUR Wives Association hosted an event for the children at St. Michael Special School, and these children really are special! The event was meaningful, informative, enlightening and most of all, fun! The PGA TOUR Wives began the morning by working with the children to make several welcome home cards for displaced victims of hurricane Katrina. One of the students then presented the colorful cards to Liz McCartney, founder of the St. Bernard Project. Volunteers from the St. Bernard Project have refurbished the homes of several of the Katrina victims and these special cards will be presented to them as they move back home. Liz McCartney was the CNN "Hero of the Year" and spoke passionately about the St. Bernard project to the PGA TOUR Wives and Zurich Wives. Emeril Lagasse did a cooking demonstration of a three-course meal using peak season, locally available foods. This followed with a lunch that featured these items he demonstrated. Emeril joined the PGA TOUR Wives Association and Tommie Schiro from Zurich in presenting checks to both the St. Michael Special School and the St. Bernard Project. These donations will be used for two kitchens in the houses they are rebuilding.
