"Healthy Packs" Program
Deutsche Bank Championship
By: Sandy Perry

The Kid's Village at the Deutsche Bank Championship was alive with excitement on Thursday, September 3, as the PGA TOUR Wives Association packed 1,000 healthy packs for needy children in the Fall River, Massachusetts area.  PTWA members joined volunteers from State Street Corporation and The Greater Boston Food Bank to fill reusable canvas grocery bags with healthy food choices donated by Stop & Shop. The bags of food will be distributed to the children through the Boys and Girls Club of Fall River.  We were also thrilled to leave behind a $1,000 check to help with hunger relief in the New England area.

This program was the culminating event of PGA TOUR’s Golf Fore Groceries campaign, a national food drive that took place throughout the TPC network and PGA TOUR, Nationwide Tour and Champions Tour events. This initiative was in response to the White House’s call to action, “United We Serve,” to focus attention on volunteerism and service. The Golf Fore Groceries program ran from August 17 through September 7 and an amazing 213,000 pounds of food was collected. This initiative was a great way to demonstrate that through cooperative efforts, we can make a significant impact on local communities, because Together, Anything's Possible!
