Victory
Junction Gang Camp - Wyndham Championship
By Julie Petrovic
On Tuesday
of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC, PGA TOUR Wives
Association members visited Kyle and Pattie Petty's Victory
Junction Gang Camp. Victory Junction is a year-round camp
chronically or seriously ill children. It is also a child's
dream come true with a bowling alley, wheelchair accessible
swim and splash areas, an arts and craft building, a beauty
salon (that will make your hair purple if you want), and a
theater area. To the delight of all campers, the camp also
creates themed nights, like food fight night with colored
mashed potatoes. They even extend the theme concept creating
themed weeks like "super hero week" where everyone,
even the medical staff, must dress as super heros!
After
Pattie Petty hosted a tour of the camp, a speed putting contest
was held on the 9-hole putt putt course. PGA TOUR player Tim
Petrovic and his caddy, Austin, an enthusiatic camper and
ambassador for the camp, raced against NASCAR great Terry
LaBonte and his caddy. Terry sped through the course winning
the "Mini-Wyndham" and the Sam Snead Jr. trophy.
Tim, after congratulating Terry on his win, asked Terry if
this was his first golf trophy and to everyone's surprise,
found out that it was!
PGA TOUR Wives Association was honored for our commitment
to children's charities during the awards presentation when
Bobby Long, Chairman of the Wyndham Championship Board of
Directors, presented a $20,000 check on behalf of Wyndham
Worldwide and the Wyndham Championship to representative,
Julie Petrovic. Julie was thrilled to accept a check on behalf
of the PTWA and assured the attendees that PTWA members "are
dedicated to positively impacting children's lives across
the nation." PGA TOUR player Tim Petrovic added "The
support of community minded companies like Wyndham is integral
to charitable groups like the PGA TOUR Wives Association being
able to complete their mission of bettering children's lives."
And thanks to a large donation from the Wyndham Championship,
the Victory Junction Gang Camp will be able to accept even
more children into the camp, allowing them the opportunity
to try new adventures, make new friends and just be kids for
a few days despite their struggles with their illnesses.
