Chip-In
for Recycling - Fry's Electronics Open
Scottsdale, AZ
For the first time in PTWA history, the Association
has undertaken an environmental initiative as one of our projects.
Partnering with Waste Management, the Fry's Electronics Open,
and The Thunderbirds, fans were encouraged to "Think
Green" during the PGA TOUR tournament held at the Grayhawk
Golf Club. Banners, placards and special recycle bins marked
"Chip in for Recycling" were on site to assist fans
with their recycling efforts.
"PGA
TOUR events are the perfect forum to get the recycle message
out and our fans are supportive of all of our charitable endeavors.
The fans fully embraced this initiative and we were pleased
with the efforts they made to recycle materials that normally
would have been thrown away," said Heather Gove, Vice
President of the PGA TOUR Wives Association.
Waste
Management is North America's largest recycler. Their renewable
energy projects create enough energy to power about 1 million
homes and save the equivalent of about 3.6 million tons of
coal a year. Their recycling program saved more than 41 million
trees last year.
"Having
a partner like Waste Management to guide us in an initiative
as important as recycling and "going green" is important"
said Dory Faxon, President of the Association. "They
are the experts and can help us create the most effective
program we possible can with the resources we have available
to us."
Our thanks
to all of the tournaments staff and Waste Management volunteers
who helped us initiate this program. It was an incredible
launch!
We have several fundraising and Volunteer Service Projects in the planning stages.
Watch for more information as the details are confirmed!
