Cook Children's Medical Center - Bank of
America Colonial
by Kate Phillips
On Tuesday,
May 16th, PTWA members visited the Cook Children's Medical
Center in Fort Worth, Texas. We joined with children from
the inpatient rehab center to decorate the windows in four
of their wards with "golfer men"! In addition to
being a fun and creative project for us all, it also served
as a great rehab exercise for the in-patients, many of whom
were still struggling with the movement of their hands and
fingers after an operation or accident. In the morning, the
children had played "putt putt" with some PGA TOUR
Golfers, on a themed putting green set up in the foyer of
the hospital by the nurses and helpers. So they already had
a grasp of birdies, bogies, and the questionable dress sense
of some golfers, as you can see from the photos of their decorations!
Cook Children's Medical Center is designed for the
specificphysical and medical needs of children. This includes
not only child-appropriate equipment and furnishings, staff
trained in child development and playrooms equipped with aquariums,
video games, computers and more, but also more than 30 medical
specialties to help ill or injured child patients. Cook Children's
is licensed for 282 beds, and offers more than 30 pediatric
specialties and services. In 2005, 73,000 emergency room patients
were treated, 10,000 patients were admitted, 16,700 surgery
patients were treated, 47 stem cell/bone marrow transplants
were performed and 744 infants were admitted to the Newborn
Care Unit. Visit www.Cookchildrens.org for more information.
