Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence Quail Hollow Championship
By: Katie Wagner
The 2010 Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence was still a big success, despite Mother Nature literally raining on our parade! We are happy to report that 990 walkers registered for this year's event - a number that was sure to go even higher had sunny skies been in our favor. The Avon Foundation committed to giving $100,000 in grants to our four very deserving North Carolina agencies, and while the weather impacted the final fundraising numbers, a generous $10,000 donation from the Quail Hollow Championship allowed us to meet our goal of $100,000 in donations to very deserving North Carolina agencies. Thank you to all the PTWA members who participated this year!
Shake, Rattle & Bowl!
presented by Sentient Jet The Honda Classic
By: Brenda Calcavecchia
During The Honda Classic, PGA TOUR Wives Association members packed up their golf clubs and grabbed a bowling ball to “Shake, Rattle & Bowl!” at Jupiter Lanes. This unique fundraising event was filled with fun and laughter while the participants enjoyed a retro bowling tournament, wearing bowling shirts, cat eye glasses and soda jerk hats! Thirty members, known as the “Strikes,” teamed up with their husbands/significant others, the “Spares,” to raise money for charity. Local radio personalities, Sally Severaid and Mo Foster, of the Mo and Sally Show, joined in on the fun, which at the end of the day, raised over $38,000.
The level of bowling talent varied. While there were some with competitive spirits, there were also beginners and a few who exhibited their goofy side when it came to getting the ball down the alley! Awards were presented in the following categories:
High Rollers - Highest team score Biggest Shoes to Fill – Highest individual score Smallest Shoes to Fill – Lowest individual score Gutter Girl – Bowler with the most gutter balls Best Team Spirit – Most enthusiastic team Pin Head Award – Most geeky bowler
Our sincere thanks are extended to the following companies for sponsoring this event: Sentient Jet, The Honda Classic, PGA TOUR, Charles Schwab, Gaylord Sports Management, Heritage Classic Foundation, Kodak, Tiffany & Co., Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Onshore Construction & Development and Medical Communication Specialists, Inc. And, a special thanks to Jupiter Lanes, Nick’s Tomato Pie, Ken Kennerly, Ed McEnroe and Kelly Blanchard from The Honda Classic. Without the support of these companies and individuals, this event would not have been possible.
Thanks to our strikes and spares who participated and helped make this event such a huge success.
