Style Your Sole! AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am
By: Sara Moores
On Tuesday evening in Pebble Beach, the PGA TOUR Wives Association partnered with TOMS Shoes and the tournament to host a Style Your Sole event. PGA TOUR professionals and celebrities alike spent the evening decorating a pair of TOMS Shoes that were later put up on the auction block to raise money for the PGA TOUR Wives Association’s designated children’s charities and the First Tee of Monterey.
PGA TOUR players who “designed” shoes for the auction included (alphabetically) Ricky Barnes, Notah Begay III, Lucas Black, Ricky Fowler, Jim Furyk, Mathew Goggin, Nathan Green, Charley Hoffman, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Martin Laird, Tom Pernice, Tim Petrovic, D.A. Points, Rory Sabbatini, Scott Stallings, Vaughn Taylor and DJ Trahan. Celebrities included Chris Berman, Matt Cain, Brandi Chastain, Don Cheadle, Kenny G, Huey Lewis, George Lopez, Bill Murray, Tony Romo and Darius Rucker.
It was a wonderful, fun-filled evening for everyone involved, but the real winners will be the children who will benefit from the auction of the shoes. Thanks to TOMS Shoes Founder Blake Mycoski, who brought this wonderful event back to Pebble Beach, and the wonderful AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am for again hosting this evening for players and guests.
Shake, Rattle & Bowl!
presented by Sentient Jet The Honda Classic
By: Brenda Calcavecchia
During The Honda Classic, PGA TOUR Wives Association members packed up their golf clubs and grabbed a bowling ball to “Shake, Rattle & Bowl!” at Jupiter Lanes. This unique fundraising event was filled with fun and laughter while the participants enjoyed a retro bowling tournament, wearing bowling shirts, cat eye glasses and soda jerk hats! Thirty members, known as the “Strikes,” teamed up with their husbands/significant others, the “Spares,” to raise money for charity. Local radio personalities, Sally Severaid and Mo Foster, of the Mo and Sally Show, joined in on the fun, which at the end of the day, raised over $38,000.
The level of bowling talent varied. While there were some with competitive spirits, there were also beginners and a few who exhibited their goofy side when it came to getting the ball down the alley! Awards were presented in the following categories:
High Rollers - Highest team score Biggest Shoes to Fill – Highest individual score Smallest Shoes to Fill – Lowest individual score Gutter Girl – Bowler with the most gutter balls Best Team Spirit – Most enthusiastic team Pin Head Award – Most geeky bowler
